OCEANS Special Sessions

A variety of special sessions may be held at the conference, providing a forum for demonstrations and discussions.  There is no cost involved to the presenters or participants.  Proposals for special sessions are due to the Technical Program Chair by 15 June 2021.

 

Workshops

Workshops are typically hands-on experiences where experts provide guidance on specific topics of interest to the OCEANS community.  A typical workshop runs between 2-4 hours.   No published documentation is provided as part of these sessions.

WORKSHOP submissions:

  1. Topic Overview
  • Subject matter to be presented.
  • Applicability of the material to current day practice in the respective field.
  1. Format
  • Manner of presentation.
  • Specify required classroom facilities.
  • Specify any audiovisual presentation that will be required.
  • Identify any additional requirements.

Additional supporting materials.

  • Curriculum Vitae for all presenters.
  • A short biographical sketch of each presenter suitable for publication in the conference program.
  • Full contact information for all presenters. Include personal web pages if available.

 

Technical Demonstrations

Similar to a tutorial, a technical demonstration is presented by a company for its customers or potential customers, in the use and operation of its product. The purpose is to provide training and expertise in equipment, software, or other skills required to operate and understand the vendor’s product.  A typical technical demonstration is between 1-2 hours.  Continuing education credits will not be given for attendance, although the vendor may present certificates of attendance.

Panel Discussions

A Panel Discussion has a group of subject matter experts that discuss a topic of interest or material to a group of attendees.  A typical panel discussion is 1-2 hours.  A report is not required, and although the results of the discussion may be presented in a report, it will not be included in the Conference Proceedings.

Panel Discussion submissions:

  • Subject matter to be presented.
  • Members of the Panel (generally 3-6)
  1. Format
  • Manner of presentation.
  • Specify required classroom facilities.
  • Specify any audiovisual presentation that will be required.
  • Identify any additional requirements.
  1. Additional supporting materials.
  • Curriculum Vitae for all presenters.
  • A short biographical sketch of each presenter suitable for publication in the conference program.
  • Full contact information for all presenters. Include personal web pages if available.

 

Town Hall

A Town Hall has a group of subject matter experts that discuss a topic of interest or material to a group of attendees, followed by breakout sessions for audience discussion. At the end of the session, the moderator will summarize the discussion and present a plan of action.  A typical Town hall is 2-3  hours.  A report is not required, and although the results of the discussion may be presented in a report, it will not be included in the Conference Proceedings.

  1. Format
  • Manner of presentation.
